by Don Caron and Lyle Hatcher
An absolutely engaging read for anyone but especially for parents, teachers and anyone who has the joy and frustration of knowing a hyper child. The authors have given us access into the fascinating mind and life of a hyper child; written so poignantly it moves the emotions of the reader from sheer unadulterated laughter to unstoppable tears.
The absolutely wonder-filled- life of ten year old Lyle Hatcher is so artfully written it gives insight through the eyes and understanding of nearly everyone involved in the experiences of that school year.
Don Caron and Lyle Hatcher certainly have the ability to open minds and hearts in a way that lets us understand clearly the driving desire to do GOOD to fellow mankind that is so inherent in the hyper child in general. Lyle’s sheer exuberance for life and simple uncomplicated belief that anything is possible if you work hard enough is truly refreshing. The unfettered joy he brings to life and the ability to act before thinking of the outcome is under-appreciated, misunderstood, and perceived as a possible threat to others safety, as well as a distraction in the classroom and on the playground and even perceived as a nuisance. We see and feel how confusing the world can be for Lyle who understands things literally and we love him for it.
